The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Army Distinguished Service Medal to Lieutenant Colonel (Medical Corps) Elliott Bard Edie, United States Army, for exceptionally meritorious and distinguished services to the Government of the United States, in a duty of great responsibility during World War I. As Commander of the 305th Sanitary Train, consisting of the 317th, 318th, 319th, and 320th Field Hospitals, and later as Division Surgeon, 80th Division, in a position of great responsibility, Lieutenant Colonel Edie maintained suitable dressing stations and provided for the continuous evacuation of the wounded in an exceptionally efficient manner under conditions of almost constant fire.
