The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Army Distinguished Service Medal to Lieutenant Colonel (Medical Corps) George De Tarnowsky, United States Army, for exceptionally meritorious and distinguished services to the Government of the United States, in a duty of great responsibility during World War I. In organizing and commanding American Red Cross Military Hospital No. 5, American Expeditionary Forces. Notwithstanding the serous deficiency in personnel and material Colonel De Tarnowsky, by his energy and efficient administration, received and treated great numbers of wounded evacuated to the Paris district during June and July 1918.
