    The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Army Distinguished Service Medal (Posthumously) to Lieutenant Colonel (Infantry) Fred Lincoln Davidson, United States Army, for exceptionally meritorious and distinguished services to the Government of the United States, in a duty of great responsibility during World War I, as Division Machine-Gun Officer, 3d Division. By his supervision and dispositions, Lieutenant Colonel Davidson contributed materially to the success of the 7th Machine-Gun Battalion at Chateau-Thierry in May 1918, and that of the machine-gun units of the division in the repulse of the enemy offensive across the Marne from 15 to 18 July 1918, and during the Meuse-Argonne campaign. He displayed at all times energy and excellent judgment under difficult conditions, and his work deserves high commendation.
