The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Army Distinguished Service Medal to Reserve Nurse Edna M. Coughlin, United States Army Nurse Corps, for exceptionally meritorious and distinguished services to the Government of the United States, in a duty of great responsibility during World War I, while attached to Emergency Medical Team No. 142, American Expeditionary Forces. As a member of an emergency medical team during an extended period of active operations, Reserve Nurse Coughlin served the non-transportable wounded of six divisions during the advances at Glorieux, Fromereville, Bethincourt, Septsarges, Bantheville, and Dun-sur-Meuse. She courageously administered to the gravely wounded in the advanced area under the fire of shells and aerial bombs, rendering a service of particular value to the American Expeditionary Forces.
