The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Army Distinguished Service Medal to Colonel (Infantry) Mortimer D. Bryant, United States Army, for exceptionally meritorious and distinguished services to the Government of the United States, in a duty of great responsibility during World War I. As a machine-gun officer of his division and later as Colonel, 107th Infantry, Colonel Bryant displayed rare qualities of courageous leadership, sound tactical judgment, and technical skill of a high order. His ability as an organizer and administrator and his unremitting devotion to duty enabled him to render the Government services of inestimable value in positions of responsibility.
