The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Army Distinguished Service Medal (Posthumously) to Colonel (Cavalry) Carl Boyd, United States Army, for exceptionally meritorious and distinguished services to the Government of the United States, in a duty of great responsibility during World War I. As military attach to the American Embassy in Paris, Colonel Boyd performed services of a most distinguished character. Later, as senior aid-de-camp to the Commander in Chief, he displayed remarkable ability, sound judgment, and tact in the many varied negotiations with the allied commanders and other allied officials, rendering services of inestimable value to the American Expeditionary Forces.
