The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Army Distinguished Service Medal to Lieutenant Colonel (Infantry) Robert Bacon, United States Army, for exceptionally meritorious and distinguished services to the Government of the United States, in a duty of great responsibility during World War I. Lieutenant Colonel Bacon served with great credit and distinction as Post commandant of General Headquarters, and as aide-de-camp to the commander in Chief. By his untiring efforts as Chief of the American Mission at British General Headquarters he has performed with marked ability innumerable duties requiring great tact and address.
