The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Navy Distinguished Service Medal to Captain David Carlisle Hanrahan, United States Navy, for exceptionally meritorious service in a duty of great responsibility in command of a destroyer and as Destroyer Division Commander operating in the war zone and later as Commanding Officer of the U.S. Naval Bombing Group during World War I, in which capacity he was conspicuously successful.
