Edgar Tobin scored 6 aerial victories in World War I to become an ACE. Following the war he founded Tobin Aerial Surveys, the largest aerial mapping firm in the world. He and eleven others died when their Grumman Mallard crashed into the trees of Wallace Lake on January 10, 1954.

    The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to First Lieutenant (Air Service) Edgar Gardner Tobin, United States Army Air Service, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with 103d Aero Squadron, 3d Pursuit Group, U.S. Army Air Service, A.E.F., near Vieville, France, 16 July 1918. While leading a patrol of three machines in the region of Vieville, First Lieutenant Tobin attacked an enemy formation of six single-seaters. He destroyed two himself and forced down a third out of control.
