The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Pharmacist’s Mate Vincent Albert Nolan, United States Navy, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving as Corpsman attached to the Second Battalion, Fifth Regiment (Marines), 2d Division, A.E.F., near St. Etienne, France, 5 to 9 October 1918. During the operations at Blanc Mont Ridge, Pharmacist’s Mate Nolan repeatedly went through intense machine-gun and shell fire to administer first aid to officers and soldiers who were wounded and lying in exposed positions.
