The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to First Lieutenant of Cavalry Jean Magon De La Giclais, Army of France, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with 42d Division, A.E.F. (Attached), on 5 March 1918, near Pexonne, France. Although he might have remained in a place of safety, Lieutenant Giclais went to the position of Battery C, 151st Field Artillery, when it was under bombardment by accurately adjusted artillery, and by his courage and coolness, assisted the officers and men of the command.
