By direction of the President, under the provisions of the act of Congress approved July 9, 1918 (Bul. No. 43, W.D., 1918), Captain of Artillery Maurice Lano, Army of France, is cited by the Commanding General, American Expeditionary Forces, for gallantry in action and a silver star may be placed upon the ribbon of the Victory Medals awarded him. Captain of Artillery Lano distinguished himself by gallantry in action while serving with the French Mission, 2d U.S. Infantry Brigade (Attached), 1st Division, American Expeditionary Forces, in action near Mouzon, France, 7 November 1918, in securing valuable information under heavy enemy fire. [Maurice Lano was subsequently awarded the Distinguished Service Cross for this same action.]

War Department, General Orders No. 19, 1922The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Captain of Artillery Maurice Lano, Army of France, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with the French Mission, 2d U.S. Infantry Brigade (Attached), 1st Division, A.E.F., near Mouson, France, 7 November 1918. Captain Lano, with another officer, made a most hazardous reconnaissance of the enemy positions along the Meuse River and supplied valuable information of these positions. During the entire exploit they were constantly under enemy observation and heavy fire of their guns.
