The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross (Posthumously) to Pharmacist’s Mate First Class Roland Ray Jamison, United States Navy, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving as a Corpsman attached to the First Battalion, Fifth Regiment (Marines), 2d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, near St. Etienne, France, 4 – 5 October 1918. Regardless of his personal danger, Pharmacist’s Mate First Class Jamison repeatedly exposed himself to machine-gun and shell fire to give first aid to the wounded in the open.
