    The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Lieutenant of Engineers Alfred Jacquin, Army of France, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with 7th U. S. Engineers (Attached), 5th Division, A.E.F., near Dun-sur-Meuse and Brieulles, France, November 1 – 3, 1918. Lieutenant Jacquin voluntarily patrolled the banks of the Meuse River day and night under machine-gun and shell fire, locating enemy machine guns and artillery, determining the damage to bridges, and obtaining data for the location and construction of pontoon bridges. During the construction of these bridges, by means of which the heights overlooking the Meuse were reach and stormed, this officer remained constantly at the bridges under heavy fire, directing the work with the highest courage and technical skill.
