The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Private Marcel Grizel, Army of France, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with 19th Battery, E.V.N., 70th Regiment, A.L.G.P., Army of France, near Mortzwiller, Alsace, 1 September 1918. On 1 September 1918, at the railroad garage near Mortzwiller, Gunner Grizel unhesitatingly entered an area under heavy bombardment by the enemy, and, as a member of the train crew, assisted in the removal of nine cars of ammunition to a place of safety. This was accomplished in spite of the track being cut and limbs of trees being thrown across the track by bursting shells.
