By direction of the President, under the provisions of the act of Congress approved July 9, 1918 (Bul. No. 43, W.D., 1918), Captain (Air Service) George F. Fisher, United States Army Air Service, is cited by the Commanding General, American Expeditionary Forces, for gallantry in action and a silver star may be placed upon the ribbon of the Victory Medals awarded him. Captain Fisher distinguished himself by gallantry in action while serving as a Pilot with the 49th Aero Squadron, 2d Pursuit Group, American Expeditionary Forces, in action near Chambley, France, 16 September 1918, in attacking two enemy planes and bringing one down. [This award was rescinded under GHQ, American Expeditionary Forces, Citation Orders No. 9 (August 1, 1920) as the recipient has been awarded a Distinguished Service Cross for deed including this act.]

War Department, General Orders No. 35 (1920)The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Captain (Air Service) George F. Fisher, United States Army Air Service, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with 49th Aero Squadron, 2d Pursuit Group, U.S. Army Air Service, A.E.F., in the vicinity of Xonville, France, 16 September 1918. While flying alone Captain Fisher encountered two enemy biplanes which were attempting to cross our lines. He attacked them and shot down one of them. He then pursued the other, forcing it to go down out of control about 10 kilometers within enemy lines.
