The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Corporal Jean Filippi, Army of France, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with 2d Regiment, Colonial Infantry, Army of France, at Magenta Farm, France, 3 November 1918. While engaged in maintaining liaison with American troops, Corporal Filippi repeatedly passed through the enemy’s lines. At one time he was attacked and almost captured by several Germans, but after a hand-to-hand struggle he succeeded in freeing himself and continuing on his mission.
