The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Second Lieutenant of Infantry Robert G. Drouhin, Army of France, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with 372d U.S. Infantry (Attached), 93d Division, A.E.F., near Monthois, France, 27 September 1918. During the attack on Monthois Lieutenant Drouhin voluntarily went each day to reconnoiter the first position, observe the advance, and to secure liaison with neighboring units, fearlessly exposing himself to the severest artillery and machine-gun fire. On September 29 he entered the enemy positions east of Ardeuil, located the machine-gun nests which were holding up the advance, traversed an open field swept by the fire of these guns to reach the liaison officer of artillery, and to give him the objective. Throughout the operations he rendered invaluable assistance to the regimental commander, and his energy and courage were an inspiration to the entire regiment.
