The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross (Posthumously) to Lieutenant Grancey De Mandat, Army of France, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with 107th U.S. Field Artillery (Attached), 28th Division, A.E.F., near Fismette, France, 6 September 1918. Lieutenant De Mandat went to an advanced observation post and when our front line temporarily withdrew stuck bravely to his position, rendering valuable service until he was killed by the intense enemy machine-gun fire. His heroism was an inspiration to all near him.
