The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Captain Oliver Chevalier, Army of France, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with 71st Regiment of Infantry, 42d Division, A.E.F. (Attached), near Champagne, France, July 15 – 16 and near the Ourcq River, France, July 28 to 2 August 1918. Captain Chevalier displayed extraordinary heroism and conspicuous gallantry in making daily reconnaissances of the front lines, under unusually heavy machine-gun and artillery fire, rendering valuable aid to the division to which he was attached.

    By direction of the President, under the provisions of the act of Congress approved July 9, 1918 (Bul. No. 43, W.D., 1918), Captain Oliver Chevalier, Army of France, is cited by the Commanding General, American Expeditionary Forces, for gallantry in action and a silver star may be placed upon the ribbon of the Victory Medals awarded him. Captain Chevalier distinguished himself by gallantry in action while serving with the 71st Regiment of Infantry, 42d Division, American Expeditionary Forces (Attached), in action on the Ourcq, France, 28 July to 2 August 1918, in making reconnaissances under heavy machine gun and shell fire. [This award was rescinded under GHQ, American Expeditionary Forces, Citation Orders No. 8 (March 1, 1920) as the recipient has been awarded a Distinguished Service Cross for deed including this act.]
