The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Brigadier Henri Bardou, Army of France, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with 308th Company, 3d Battalion of Light Tanks, Assault Artillery, Army of France, near Massif Blanc Mont, France, 8 October 1918. During an attack by the Second American Division, he displayed marked coolness and bravery in guiding his tank through heavy counter-preparation fire during an approach march. He never hesitated to leave the protection of the tank the better to direct its advance. Later he showed great personal courage in going through heavy shell fire to the rescue of several wounded American soldiers.
