The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Colonel (Infantry) George Vidmer, United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving as Commanding Officer, 306th Infantry Regiment, 77th Division, American Expeditionary Forces, near Zube, France, 27 September 1918, and St. Juvin, France, 14 October 1918. By his personal presence, example and determination Colonel Vidmer repulsed strong counterattacks and drove the enemy from important positions north of Zube. On 14 October he personally directed the attack of his unit and carried it forward to a successful conclusion under heavy machine-gun, rifle, and artillery fire.
