The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Army Distinguished Service Medal to Brigadier General William Jones Nicholson, United States Army, for exceptionally meritorious and distinguished services to the Government of the United States, in a duty of great responsibility during World War I. General Nicholson Commanded with distinction the 157th Infantry Brigade, 79th Division, from its organization to the time of the armistice–at all times with credit to himself and to his command. The singularly distinctive accomplishments of General Nicholson and his dedicated contributions in the service of his country reflect the highest credit upon himself and the United States Army.
