The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Sergeant Arthur Peter Zimmerman (ASN: 2257107), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Company D, 1st Battalion, 361st Infantry Regiment, 91st Division, American Expeditionary Forces, near Gesnes, France, October 3. 1918. Sergeant Zimmerman voluntarily and unhesitatingly left shelter under heavy shell fire and, without thought of personal danger, rendered first aid and carried a wounded comrade to a place of safety.
