The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Sergeant Pearl James Wines (ASN: 2220447), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Company E, 358th Infantry Regiment, 90th Division, American Expeditionary Forces, north of Fey-en-Haye, France, 12 September 1918. Upon encountering a party of five Germans, one of whom wounded him in the side, Sergeant Wines, unaided, engaged the entire number, killing three and capturing the other two.
