The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Sergeant Earle W. Wilson (ASN: 102466), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Company M, 168th Infantry Regiment, 42d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, near Sergy, France, 28 July 1918. Showing great personal bravery and contempt of danger at all times during the attack on Hill 212, Sergeant Wilson maneuvered his platoon so skillfully as to capture a machine-gun position with four of its occupants, after which he operated the two enemy guns thus taken against the retreating Germans.
