The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Sergeant William H. Williamson (ASN: 1215898), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Company M, 108th Infantry Regiment, 27th Division, American Expeditionary Forces, near Ronssoy, France, 29 September 1918. Sergeant Williamson, in charge of a combat patrol successfully accomplished his mission under heavy shell and machine-gun fire, after three-fourths of his patrol had been killed or wounded. In the same engagement, he successfully reorganized his company, after all the officers were killed or wounded, and led it in effective combat.
