The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross (Posthumously) to Private Mack H. Williams (ASN: 40859), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Company M, 9th Infantry Regiment, 2d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, near Medeah Ferme, France, 3 October 1918. Wounded in the hip by shell fire while acting as stretcher bearer, Private Williams remained on duty until his company was relieved seven days later.
