The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Captain (Infantry) Herman Henry Weimer, United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with 131st Infantry Regiment, 33d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, near the Bois-de-Chaume, France, 9 October 1918. Captain Weimer had been wounded in the shoulder, and a machine-gun bullet had penetrated his steel helmet, but he nevertheless continued to lead his company, creating confidence in his men at a critical moment. Upon being ordered to the rear by his battalion commander, he returned to his company as soon as his wounds had been dressed.
