    The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Sergeant Patrick Walsh (ASN: 47712), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Company I, 18th Infantry Regiment, 1st Division, American Expeditionary Forces, near Seicheprey, Ansauville sector, France, 1 March 1918. Sergeant Walsh voluntarily followed his company commander to the first line through a severe barrage, and when the captain was killed he assumed command of a group on his own initiative, attacked a superior force of the enemy and inflicted heavy losses upon them.

Sergeant Walsh distinguished himself by gallantry in action while serving with Company I, 18th Infantry, 1st Division, American Expeditionary Forces, in action during World War I. Sergeant Walsh followed his company commander to the first lines in spite of a severe barrage; the captain being killed, he assumed command of a group attacked a superior force of the enemy, inflicting severe loss upon them. Though advanced in age, he refused to leave the front.
