The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Corporal Joseph Allen Wallace (ASN: 2257240), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Company D, 361st Infantry Regiment, 91st Division, American Expeditionary Forces, near Gesnes, France, 3 October 1918. While his company was under heavy shell fire Corporal Wallace voluntarily, unhesitatingly, and repeatedly left his shelter under heavy shell fire, without thought of personal danger, rendered first aid, and carried wounded comrades to a place of safety.
