The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross (Posthumously) to First Sergeant Paul Von Krebs (ASN: 558501), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Company M, 47th Infantry Regiment, 4th Division, American Expeditionary Forces, at Sergy, France, July 29 – 30, 1918. Sergeant Von Krebs displayed exceptional bravery in voluntarily carrying wounded men to safety across shell-swept areas. Later he took charge of two platoons, whose officers had become casualties, and reorganized them. Strengthening these with stragglers from other organizations, he led them all into the attack at a critical moment.
