The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Private Victor Van Yorx (ASN: 91288), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Company K, 165th Infantry Regiment, 42d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, near Villers-sur-Fere, France, 28 July 1918. Though severely wounded in the ankle, Private Van Yorx refused to leave the field of battle, and next day made the attack on the heights north of the River Ourcq, remaining with his company until again wounded.
