    The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross (Posthumously) to Private First Class David Harold Underwood (ASN: 279050), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Company B, 126th Infantry Regiment, 32d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, near Fismes, France, 6 August 1918. With exceptional courage Private Underwood went out under heavy fire from enemy machine-guns and snipers and rescued a wounded runner who had strayed into the enemy’s lines by mistake.
