The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Private Ray Clifford Turner (ASN: 935323), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with 101st Ambulance Company, 101st Sanitary Train, 26th Division, American Expeditionary Forces, near Saulx, France, 26 September 1918. Under intense bombardment Private Turner volunteered to go forward with a sergeant to rescue a number of seriously wounded soldiers. While they were engaged in this heroic work Private Turner was wounded and his companion killed by an exploding shell. After receiving first aid he immediately resumed his duties and remained at the front until the advanced station was closed.
