The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross (Posthumously) to Sergeant Eugene W. Towne (ASN: 1205170), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Company K, 105th Infantry Regiment, 27th Division, American Expeditionary Forces, near St. Souplet, France, 18 October 1918. With two other soldiers Sergeant Towne rushed forward into some hedges and silenced three light machine guns which were hindering the advance by flanking fire.
