The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Private Frank Frederick Tomanek (ASN: 2176998), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Company I, 353d Infantry Regiment, 89th Division, American Expeditionary Forces, in the Bois-de-Bantheville, France, 1 November 1918. When volunteers were called for to maintain liaison with the assault battalion, during heavy counter-barrage between enemy, Private Tomanek volunteered and within two hours successfully carried out four such missions.
