The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross (Posthumously) to Corporal Charles Lawrence Timm (ASN: 65097), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Company G, 102d Infantry Regiment, 26th Division, American Expeditionary Forces, near Crepion, France, 23 October 1918. Corporal Timm, with the assistance of one other soldier, captured three enemy machine-guns and their crews which had held up the advance of his company. He was later killed in action in the Bois-de-la Reine.
