The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross (Posthumously) to Private Cecil Earl Thompson (ASN: 2267689), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Company K, 364th Infantry Regiment, 91st Division, American Expeditionary Forces, near Eclisfontaine, France, 28 September 1918. Engaged in scouting duty, Private Thompson went forward on his own initiative, and located the position of the enemy on our front. After an all-night exploit, he returned with this information. Without rest, he went out in the morning and located a troublesome machine-gun nest.
