The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Private Adolph Swanson (ASN: 2850023), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Company I, 357th Infantry Regiment, 90th Division, American Expeditionary Forces, near Les Huit Chemins, France, 29 September 1918. Private Swanson volunteered and accompanied Chaplain Charles D. Priest in going 600 yards beyond the front line and assisted him in carrying to safety a wounded man.
