By direction of the President, under the provisions of the act of Congress approved July 9, 1918 (Bul. No. 43, W.D., 1918) Second Lieutenant (Infantry) Harry A. Stevens, United States Army, is cited (Posthumously) by the Commanding General, SECOND Division, American Expeditionary Forces, for gallantry in action and a silver star may be placed upon the ribbon of the Victory Medals awarded him. Second Lieutenant Stevens distinguished himself while attached to the Fifth Regiment (Marines), 2d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, at Blanc Mont, France, 1 – 10 October 1918.

    The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross (Posthumously) to Second Lieutenant (Infantry) Harry Alexander Stevens, United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with 5th Machine-Gun Battalion, 2d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, near Somme-Py, France, 3 October 1918. While leading his platoon in attack, Lieutenant Stevens fell mortally wounded but refused to be taken to the dressing station until he had directed the advance of his platoon and assured himself that it would not be checked.
