By direction of the President, under the provisions of the act of Congress approved July 9, 1918 (Bul. No. 43, W.D., 1918), Private Aboil E. Snyder (ASN: 2339528), United States Army, is cited (Posthumously) by the Commanding General, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, and a silver star may be placed upon the ribbon of the World War I Victory Medals awarded him. While serving with Company I, 4th Infantry Regiment, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, Private Snyder displayed great courage and devotion to duty near La Charmel on 26 July 1918. Shot through the stomach by a machine gun bullet while carrying a message, he kept on to the next relay station, arranged for the safe delivery of his message and died a few moments later. War Department, General Orders No. 32 (1919)The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross (Posthumously) to Private Aboil Edwin Snyder (ASN: 2339528), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Company I, 4th Infantry Regiment, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, near Le Channel, France, 28 July 1918. Although shot through the stomach with a machine-gun bullet, Private Snyder continued to the next relay station and arranged for the safe delivery of his message. He died a few minutes later.
