The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Corporal James Titch, United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Company H, 2d Battalion, 28th Infantry Regiment, 1st Division, American Expeditionary Forces, near St. Mihiel, France, on 12 September 1918. Corporal Titch displayed exceptional heroism in raiding a dugout and capturing eight prisoners, after a hand-to-hand encounter with two of them.
