By direction of the President, under the provisions of the act of Congress approved July 9, 1918 (Bul. No. 43, W.D., 1918), Sergeant Harry P. Simpson (ASN: 1550407), United States Army, is cited by the Commanding General, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, and a silver star may be placed upon the ribbon of the World War I Victory Medals awarded him. While serving with Battery B, 76th Field Artillery Regiment, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, Sergeant Simpson displayed extraordinary heroism in battle on 28 July 1918, near Le Charmel, France, when although wounded himself, and seeing his captain and 32 other members of the battery wounded by a bomb from an enemy airplane, he assisted in evacuating the wounded and retained command of his section until his piece was placed din a new position, before reporting for treatment.
