The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Private Manuel Simas (ASN: 2266516), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Company C, 364th Infantry Regiment, 91st Division, American Expeditionary Forces, near Eclisfontaine, France, 28 September 1918. After being wounded by a machine-gun bullet, early in the afternoon, Private Simas remained in action and without making his wound known, willingly offered and held a very dangerous outpost until late the next morning, when he was ordered to the hospital.
