The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Second Lieutenant (Infantry) George A. Shuman, United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Company C, 360th Infantry Regiment, 90th Division, American Expeditionary Forces, near Fey-en-Haye, France, 15 September 1918. Second Lieutenant Shuman saved the lives of wounded men in his command by going into “No Man’s Land” under severe shell fire in plain view of the enemy, giving them first-aid treatment and assisting them back to shelter.
