The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Private First Class Frank Sembertrant (ASN: 2262922), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Machine-Gun Company, 363d Infantry Regiment, 91st Division, American Expeditionary Forces, near Waereghem, Belgium, 31 October 1918. Having set up his gun in the open near the enemy wire, at a range of less than 200 meters from the enemy and in the face of direct machine-gun fire, Private Sembertrant offered a most stubborn resistance to the enemy despite the fact that his sergeant had been killed and is gun damaged by the heavy fire. He continued until one gunner had been killed and the fire from another gun silenced.
