While serving with Company E, 38th Infantry Regiment, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, near Moline, France, 15 – 18 July 1918, Private First Class Sellers volunteered several times to carry messages through heavy artillery and machine gun fire. The work done by Private First Class Sellers enabled the liaison to be kept up during the engagement. [A Distinguished Service Cross was awarded for this action.]

Sellers (ASN: 2397944), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Company E, 38th Infantry Regiment, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, near Moulin, France, 15 July 1918. Private Sellers carried numerous messages over routes swept by enemy rifle and machine-gun fire. Due to his individual heroism when exposed to heavy fire, his platoon commander was able to learn of the plan of action at a very important time during the powerful enemy offensive across the Marne.
