    The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Private Clifford M. Seiders (ASN: 1781957), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Machine-Gun Company, 314th Infantry Regiment, 79th Division, American Expeditionary Forces, near Malancourt, France, 26 September 1918. Advancing ahead of his platoon in the face of heavy machine-gun fire, Private Seiders entered alone a ruined building, and discovered 13 of the enemy. He shot one who resisted capture and made prisoners of the remaining twelve, bringing in with him three light machine guns. Later in the same day, he captured ten of the enemy and five machine guns.
