The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross (Posthumously) to Sergeant John H. Secor (ASN: 1764412), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Company M, 310th Infantry Regiment, 78th Division, American Expeditionary Forces, near St. Juvin, France, 16 October 1918. Having been painfully wounded in the foot, Sergeant Secor remained with his platoon and went over the top with it in the advance near St. Juvin. He gallantly assisted his platoon commander in the attack until he was again wounded and rendered unable to advance farther. His example of bravery and devotion to duty furnished an inspiring example to the other members of the platoon, many of whom were under fire for the first time.
